Mechs come in all shapes and sizes from heavy hitting Assault class mechs to the light agile ultra-light mechs. Battlemechs are considered Kings of the battlefield. However, until recently with the discovery of the Grey Death Memory Core, the rarity of mechs on the battlefield caused even the lightest of mechs to gain attention of a planetary defense force. While only few worlds can even afford a regiments worth of these valuable machines most have to use infantry and tanks to ward of attacks. Sometimes a mech warrior may find him or herself dispossessed after loosing the family mech. These dispossessed warriors find themselves in tanks or infantry units hoping to take another mech either in battle or as salvage.
The glory days of the Star League and returning in Mechwarrior Dark Age brought the return of the Civillian mech. These mechs powered by cheap internal combustion engines provide differnet services such as Forestry, Construction, and Mining to the private sector of the economy of the Innesphere. Inside the clans, the ethos of mechs for warriors only prevent the use of mechs in the civillian sector. During the techncial dark age that followed the fall of the Star League many civillian mechs were either stripped of their valuable coponets; myomer, gyros, actuators, etc. Some mechs in Periphery regions after mech was destroyed would rebuilt it with internal combustion engines. Despite the rebuilding mechs with internal combustion engines, the mechs would only be a shadow of their former selves.
