In 3067 after the Federated Commonwealth Civil
War ended, Khan Martha Pryde worried that her depleted forces would have to
take on renewed fighting with Clan Wolf. Worries turned into a true threat when
multiple loyalist refugees entered Clan Wolf space following Katrina into Clan
Wolf. Fearing the influx of warriors would allow Clan Wolf to attack Jade Falcon
space Khan Pryde sent out the order for immediate rearmament. To quickly rebuild
the forces engineers dug through old technical readouts and opened a few caches
of ancient mechs.
During this rapid rebuilding an old star league design came to light, the Demon.
In one of the last caches opened there was four Demon chassis with a complete
set of technical readouts. The Demon find shaved months off of development time
and allowed for immediate production. By Dec 3068 the first new Demons entered
service with Clan Jade Falcon.
The Demon was designed originally to be an easy
to repair heavy hitting mech built for use by the Star League Defense Force.
Featuring a ancient Pontiac 100 cannon, with 20 rounds of ammo safe
guarded by a case system, and offering a good punch at range thanks to a ER
PPC the Demon was able to stay if the fight for a long time. As the necessary
equipment was being assembled clan engineers began working on an overhaul of
the Demon's original design.
The ancient Pontiac Cannon was replaced with heavier hitting ultra class cannon,
giving the mech more range and double the firing rate of the Demons old weapon.
To help compensate for the faster firing rate and greater ammo consumption,
an extra ton of ammo was placed in the torso ammo bay. After the main weapon
refitting was completed the engineers decided on stripping the ER PPC and replacing
it with a Franciscan Monks Inc Heavy large laser. While not carrying the same
range as the original ER PPC the heavy large laser does offer a heavier punch.
After the heavy large laser was installed engineers quickly took note of the
heat it caused, installing an additional six double heat sinks to ensure the
Demon can fire the weapon repeatedly without worry of heat build up.
Thanks to Clan technology making materials less bulky and lighter the Demon
was now available to mount ferro-fiberous armor on its endo-steel chassis. The
weight savings allowed the engineers to install an electronic counter measure
suite allowing the heavy mech to bushwhack enemy mechs in confined areas such
as urban, or canyon fighting. While bushwhacking other mechs maybe looked down
upon by most Jade Falcon warriors, some have racked up some impressive kills
using this technique.
The Star League era Demon Mounted a massive Pontiac
100 auto cannon backed by a Fusigon Longtooth Extended Range Particle Projection
Cannon. Eleven double heat sinks purged heat from the Demon, while an endo-steel
chassis lighted the mech up enough to allow the inclusion of GM's Jetstar jump
jets to help augment the mechs maneuverability. The Demon also carried 100 percent
of its theoretical armor protection with 14 tons of thick Star Slab armor.
The Demon went out of production shortly after the First Succession War when
the Star League vintage machinery was appropriated for subassembly work of Dropship
and Jumpship parts. Shortly afterward the Innersphere lost the technology for
the manufacturing of endo-steel and the ERPPC. Currently no Demons are known
to exist in either Comstar or Word of Blake forces; however some speculate that
Snord's Irregulars may have one operational Demon. The technical specs are known
to be in GM's data bases, and some Comstar agents speculate that it may only
be a matter of time before GM or another manufacturer steps up and produces
the Demon for Innersphere warriors.
The Demon was designed too late to be used in the
Amiris Civil War, but was available during the rebuilding stages of the SLDF.
When Alexander Kerensky went into his self imposed exile only a handful of the
Demons stayed behind to be decimated during the First Succession War and with
the beginning of the Second Succession War the last Demon fell in battle.
Currently the new Demons are serving in both front line and second line Jade
Falcon units. While trueborn warriors shun having non omni-mechs in front line
duty, no freeborn has yet to complain about being assigned to pilot a Demon.
