Overview:

The Light Hammer variant LH-WDs is was a strict Wolf's Dragoons variant jealously guarded by the famous Mercenary outfit until their destruction at the hands of Word of Blake forces. The LH-WDs features a mixture of clan and Inner sphere technologies to offer the Dragoons pilots a faster mech that can do double duty as either a front line mech or a command mech for medium recon lances.

Capabilities:

The LH-WDs variant offers Wolf's Dragoons pilots a heavy mech with the movement to either be a front line fighter or a dangerous heavy scout command mech. While the LH-1 was built by Arc-Royal Mechworks under the supervision of the Dragoons the LH-WDs was only built at the Dragoon backed Blackwell Corporation on Outreach. With the Light Hammer's obvious lineage being that of the Warhammer the heavy mech carried the aurora of power with it making it a favorite of pilots lucky enough to be assigned the mech.

How the Dragoons got a hold of a stable supply of clan extra light engines is still a mystery to old ROM agents and even to the Republic today. Many in the Republic say the Dragoons was able to produce their own engines, but in very limited quantities despite the loss of their space station to Combine "terrorists" before the Fourth Succession War. Others argue that the Dragoons still had ties to Clan Wolf then to Wolf-in-Exile which gave them the access they needed to the fusion engines. What evidence may have been of the Dragoon's supply is probably ashes in the crater that used to be Wolf's Dragoons home on Outreach. For the LH-WDs Light Hammer however the clan engine saved enough weight to boost the mechs top speed to a respectable 86 km/h. Engineers with the Dragoons also boosted the jumping capability of the LH-WDs variant by removing a ½ ton of the standard armor that encased the mech.

The Dragoon's kept the LH-1's weaponry witch consisted of dual Martell extended raged large lasers and backed by dual Holly-6 SRM packs mounted in the shoulders of the Light Hammer. The supporting three tons of ammunition for the Holly-6 packs are safely stored in a case system in order to protect the valuable engine and pilot from ammunition explosions. Also still present is the LH-1's guardian ECM unit and the mechs strange transmitter mounted to the mechs head.

Battle History:

When the Jihad broke out C company of Beta regiment was on Arc-Royal participating in field exercises with Clan Wolf-in-Exile. As word of the holcust on Outreach reached the unit they immediatly made the show of leaving Arc-Royal aboard their jumpship with all outward appeacences of heading home. However, as time quickly showed this unit was out for vengeces pure and simple.

During the next several months the unit showed their true colors, Their path home was through blood and piracy as they used every means at their disposal including caputred nuclear weaponry to cut a path blood on their way home. Two months into their campiagn came the most successful of raids which helped to slow down some of the spread of the Jihad.

Variants:

The only other factory variant to the Light Hammer model LH-WDs is the original LH-1 model. Slower because of the use of Inner sphere technology the mech also features slightly heavier armor to help make up for the loss of speed caused by the lack of clan technology. Because the LH-1 used the light engine wich shared the same mouting points as the clan XL engine some owners have been able to salvage the 240 rated clan XL engine to produce a clone of the WDs. Though rare, beacuse of the expensive clan engine the clones are still operating here and there often they are found in unit along the former clan/Inner sphere border.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:

Chassis Number: Unknown
Build Date: Unknown
Model: LH-WDs
Mech Name: Jr.
Pilots Name: Joseph "Lefty" Warden

When the Word of Blake came calling on Outreach Joseph Warden and his reinforced company where on Arc Royal participating in exercises with Clan Wolf-In-Exile. When news came of the decimation from nuclear and orbital bombardment the unit did what Dragoon's have always done in the past, seek vengeance.

For seven months the unit hit targets of opportunity striking WOB units and disappearing. During this time they used every weapon available including captured nuclear warheads, germ warfare, and other unconventional attacks against WOB forces. This bloodletting and other crimes committed against the Ares Convention lead the small unit being branded as Pirates. However as the atrocities were directed against Word of Blake, at a time when any victory was a morale booster, the unit was not actively hunted nor was a reward placed on their heads, but publicly all commanders and merc units admonished this Omega company of Beta Regiment. The success of the raids and the amount of casualties WOB forces suffered at the hands of Omega company became something of a legend and spread the notion that Omega company was not whom they appeared to be.

Rumors that Omega Company was a sham began soon after they left Arc-Royal. While on paper the unit was legitimate though they only had recently come into existence, none of the pilot's names matched any known to pilot for the Dragoons. Also, the unit seemed a little too well trained and coordinated for a recently put together unit. Omega Companies mode of transport was also unusual in that they arrived in a scout jump ship that showed a high degree of clan technology during their raiding spree. Omega Company also believed heavily in the use of unconventional weaponry and tactics leading many to believe that they were apart of the infamous Wolf Net.

In the final raids Joseph's unit must have either gotten careless in their bloodlust or burned out as the toll began to show in the unit. Reports of the unit's activities by Comstar spies tell of the company beginning to take losses so much so that by the time the seventh month ended the unit was down to three barely operational mechs, four pilots, and three elementals. The last reports had the unit striking at a WOB fleet in orbit over Kathil. The unit jumped in launched a nuclear missile then jumped out in a matter of minutes. The damage was minimal to the small transport fleet but two jump ships was damaged enough that they was only fit for salvage. The raid, while causing minimal damage was enough to cause the WOB commandeers to pull back some aero-space units to cover the vulnerable transports delaying the inevitable surrender of Kathil.

Upon returning home no one knew what the unit thought of the waste land that was left behind after nuclear and orbital strikes, but it is assumed they found a place to settle down in among the few remaining settlements of Outreach. It is assumed that Lefty still pilots Jr. as it has been spotted with a ghostly Warhammer painted in the infamous Black Widow Company colors patrolling the nuclear wastelands left behind from the war. The two mechs along with other survivors actively patrol the region and take great pleasure in shooting up prospectors tempted by rumored lost caches and technology of the legendary Wolf's Dragoons.

Deployment

The Blackwell Corporation was producing both variants of the Light Hammer before its demise at the hands of Word of Blake. By producing both variants lead to confusion as to how many of each was produced. The Dragoons ever excellent in covert ops even went as far as to make both the LH-1 and the LH-WDs looks exactly alike furthering the confusion. It is unknown actually how many model LH-WDs Light Hammers exist, as the only one is on Outreach and the only known source was Blackwell Corp.

Col. Jamie Wolf was by no means a fool, adding into Wolf's intellegence is the highly closed society that was the Dragoons has lead many to believe in still hidden and forgotten caches of mechs might be buried on Outreach. Whether these caches actually exist is still unknown, however if they do exist there stands to chance that a few Light Hammer WDs may be hiding awaiting discovery. Be warned though, that Outreach is still defended by the descendants of the Dragoon and do not take too kindly to strangers poking around in what they consider to be near holy ground.
